NEW WORD DOC ALWAYS DISPLAYS TEST DOC I CREATED

I have Microsoft XP (Home edition) operating system on my
newly purchased laptop. After installing Office Suite
2000 Pro, I opened a new word document and typed in two
paragraphs, then closed file. No messages asking for a
doc name. When I tried opening another new document, my
first test document appears. If I don't make any
changes, I can close it without saving it under a name.
But if I try to erase what I typed, I'm prompted to name
the document, if I want to save it: doc1 or an automatic
title from my first line text.

I tried uninstalling the entire suite and reinstalling
it, but still get the first doc text when I try to open a
new document. I even installed Word 2002, but got the
same problem. I uninstalled the Suite 2000 keeping Word
2002, but no improvement.

I tried copying the Windword (2000)app from another
computer in my home but it resulted only in a shortcut
when I pasted it into my laptop Office path next to the
original WinWord file (after which I deleted the original
which I believe is now corrupt). Of course, the shortcut
didn't allow me to open Word.

What exactly is the problem and solution?
