Newbie and vocabulary

Hi,
I'm reading the Project Server 2003 Installation Guide,
Could someone explain in simple words what is a "virtual server" and what
means "to extend the virtual server".

Roy:

Briefly: A virtual server is a top-level web site instance in IIS, such as
the "Default" Web Site where you might have installed your instance of
Project Server in the \projectserver "Virtual Directory." A virtual
directory is a folder or sub-web of a virtual server. Virtual servers are
accessed by domain names or machine names resolving to a combination of IP
address and port number.
