Newbie: Changing data type for key value

W

Walter Donavan

I would like to change a key value, SoftwareID, from AutoNumber ("0037") to
Text ("WIN2KFULL"), but Access 2002 won't let me. It says a relationship
exists between my Software table and a related (CD) table. That was true,
but I broke the relationship and restarted the program. Access insists that
the relationship still exists. Have I any recourse besides starting over?

How did you "Break" the relationship. To delete a relationship, you have to
go to the Relationship window, right-click on the relationship line and
choose Delete from the pop-up box. (The other choice will be Edit
Relationship.)

However, I question the wisdom in this course of action. There are VERY few
instances when I would not want an autonumber for my primary key.

I couldn't get anything to work so I started over. No real loss: the
database was only in the earliest design stage.

Thanks for your help.
