Newbie here - how can I change the worksheet TEMPLATE

Hi,

this is one great ng! I've been reading for hours and find it
enormously informative. Thanks. I'm a newbie to the ng but not
entirely to Excel. I'm still on '97 (not 2000) I know how to
format the workbook template (book1.xlt) to open with the
settings (margins, custom header etc) that I prefer, but every
time that I open a new worksheet within the same workbook, it
gives me the original Excel settings that it has always given
me - unless, of course, I *copy* the worksheet already formatted
by me - but it is inconvenient to do that every time.

I've tried to locate a file on my computer which would be a
worksheet template, equivalent to the book1.xlt, but can find
nothing. How do I change settings to permanently affect any new
worksheet that is created within a workbook?

Hoping that someone here can help me,

With thanks,.

Save it as Book.xlt (not Book1.xlt) and put it in the startup folder. That
way it should replace the default workbook
You might also want to make a Sheet.xlt so that if you add a sheet to your
workbook it will also have the same formats

Just a precaution which may be unnecessary but......

When saving the Book Template to your Xlstart folder be sure you don't just
Save As> Book.xlt.

Save As>File Type>Excel Template(*.xlt) and name it Book. Excel will add the
..xlt

Thank you Sjoblom.
It was *most* helpful. I didn't realize that was the way to save
a sheet that way too.
All the best,

Thank you Gord. I remembered to do that. I have exactly what I
wanted, with thanks to you and to Peo.

That's fine, that was what they used when I was in the army <g>
