Steggles - Home Office

Hi there, I need some help.

I am running Server 2003 and Frontpage 2003.

I have my website, (www.steggles.com), and want to know how to kick up my
hit counter as when I reset my site, (ie managed to use a backup to
re-install my site. the hit counter reset itself down to zero.

My second request is that I wan to know how to put a weblog onto my site for
all other family users to use.

Any ideas??

To reset the hit counter use either of these methods.
1. open the live site, right click the hit counter and use the Reset Feature
2. Open the live site, open the _private folder, open in Notepad the pagename.htm.cnt file that
relates to the page with the hit counter and edit the digits to reflect what you want. Do *not*
change the total number of digits displayed, just change the needed 0's to reflect the number you
want. Save the file and close Notepad

Web logs or Blogs are a 1 person show. You will need a discussion web which you can create with
FrontPage.

Since you are running Windows 2003 server, you MAY want to look into Windows
SharePoint Services. When authoring against a WSS site with FrontPage, you
will get a new Web Template called: Web Log, which (I hope obviously :))
creates a Blog for you.

Steve,

Many thanks for your advice. I have looked in the _Private folder and there
is only one file in there, called:
'index.htm.cnt' . This file has a red X on it and the properties state that
the file is not for publishing.

Upon opening the folder, it comes up with the following:

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
</head>
<PRE>FPCountFile 00000000000</PRE>

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help guys.

Did you in fact open the live site, not your local site on the pc as Steve
pointed out?

Did you open the index.htm.cnt file in Notepad and change the numbers as
Steve pointed out?

Open FrontPage, click File > Open Web. Enter http://yourweb.com as the web to open. Enter your
server ( publishing ) user name and password. You should then have your live site open in
FrontPage.

Guys,

I have tried to follow your instructions about opening the live website, but
the option File> Open Web does not exist on Frontpage 2003, so I am stuck.

If you can work it out for me great, but if not, many thanks for all your
help, I really appreciate it.

Next question to follow:::::
