Newbie Question: Why is View my tasks empty?

S

Sterling Ledet

I can't get the Tasks tab to show any tasks whatsoever. I also can't get
the Resources tab to show any resources.

I am setup as administrator, and have about 20 projects that appear in the
Projects tab. I can open them, PWA correctly creates new projects with
Sharepoint sites when I save from Project Pro, etc.

I've created Enterprise level resources by using Tools>Enterprise
Options>Open Enterprise Resource pools and I am assigning these resources
based on windows accounts to tasks from within Project Pro 2003.

When I save and publish, I can't get anything to appear on my tasks or on my
resources.

Any one have any suggestions to what I might be doing wrong? I figure it
must be security related, but I can't seem to fix it by noodling around in
Admin.

A new clue, but still no fix or understanding by me the newbie.

When I go to the Resources tab and choose View resource assignments and add
everybody in, I see my tasks. But when i choose View enterprise resources in
Resource Center, I get the following error:

There are no resources to display in this view.

You either do not have permissions to see any resources in this view or
there are currently no resources in the Project Server database. Contact
your server administrator.

Again, any clues or suggestions much appreciated.

Sterling:

Before you set out to start publishing projects, did you go to Tools >
Enterprise Options > Project Server Accounts and setup an account to connect
to Project Server? This is the first step you must take before publishing to
Project Server, otherwise, you're publishing NON-ENTERPRISE projects to the
server. Could that be it?

Thanks Gary, but that's not it. The default account is an active directory
account in the format of DOMAIN\USER and was set up before publishing. It's
got to be something else.

Yes. Under Project Server Accounts, automatically detect connections is on.
I'm not clear on as to how that's relevant, though. Do empty tasks have
something to do with whether or not you are connected?

I think I figured it out.

I had to go into Build Teams in Project Server and make sure the enterprise
resources were committed, not just proposed.

I then had to assign the resources at the primary task level, not just the
indented task level.

Once I republished the project, that seems to have done the trick.
