Newbie - Quick importing of Excel spreadsheets / MySQL

Dave Smithz

Hi,

Checking out the Visio 2003 trial this looks like it could be handy for
mapping out my DB's as diagrams. I use MYSql DB's and I have a lot of the
information about the fields of these tables already held in Excel
spreadsheets.

Is there an easy way to import the excel spreadsheet data into Visio so I do
not have to go and define all the fields in Visio?

Also if I have data in Visio (as in I started designing new DB's in Visio
ion the future) is there an easy way to export the data into a spreadsheet
of flat file that can then be used to build my MySQL create table queries?

Thanks in advance.

first the good news, you can forward engineer using visio enterprise (part
of vs.net). now the not so good news, the database modeling is a custom app
within visio and doesn't play well with the outside world (no import, and a
lot of requests to 'enhance' reporting).

Hi,

I want to do something similar to Dave although less technical. I would
like to maintain website site maps and page lists in Excel and be able to
produce Visio sitemaps on the fly. I heard that it was possible to import
Excel sheets and Access DBs into Visio to produce this but so far have had no
luck. Would anyone know how to import an Excel list with hierarchies into
Visio to turn it into a hierarchical site map drawing?

Thanks in advance,

Max
