Last night I accidentally deleted my Outlook.PST file when cleaning up
some disk space.
I was able to recover the file. (1.79 GB in size)
I placed the file back into its proper folder. OE6 said the file had
errors and to run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe), so I did. A few
errors were found and corrected.
Even after running scanpst.exe, OE6 wouldn't let me create a new
message, nor would it display my Address Book. I received a couple
different error messages:
"There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred."
"Unable to open the Address Book. The Address Book may not be installed
properly."
One thing I should note is that the folders were intact all along,
allowing me to receive messages just fine.
I read on another site about changing the UseOutlook value from 1 to 0
here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wab\Wab4
This did the trick, well sort of. I'm able to write new messages again,
and my address book has returned too. HOWEVER, this version of my
address book is almost 2 years old. When I located the file, it gives
9/3/2004 as the last modified date. So what happened to my most recent
Address Book? Theoretically, I have a recent version backed up on an
external drive or DVD (not positive about this), but where did this
older version come from in the first place?
Is my newest Address Book gone for good?
