Anyone out there having problems installing this update? It downloads fine
through the Office Update site, then simply says Installation Unsuccessful
with no further information.

Thanks in advance.

Hi No.1,

If you go to Start=>Run and type
%TEMP%
it should take you to the temporary folder
where the Office MS Installer log files
are created. The log files are plain text
and should provide some additional detail/error
message.

You may want to try using Detect & Repair from
the help menu in Visio to see if it completes
successfully and then applying the update.

You may want to also check with the Visio folks
in news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.visio
and include the version of Windows/SPs you have installed.

Hi Bob,

I'm also experiencing problems with the Visio 2002 security patch
KB822212 and I suspect this problem to be related to OfficeUpdate
rather than to Visio. Now here is my story:

First of all, I need to say that I'm still on Office 2000 (with all
the latest updates installed as confirmed by OfficeUpdate).

Yesterday, I've installed Visio 2002 because this is required for my
planned exploration of BizTalk 2002. The installer detected an already
existing Visio 2000 and removed that automatically as the initial
phase of the installation. After that and a successful activation of
Visio 2002, I ran OfficeUpdate which found Visio SR-1 and security
patch KB822212. Both updates downloaded and installed just fine at
first sight. But every time I run OfficeUpdate again, KB822212 is also
offered again. If I select it, it downloads but installation fails.

If I let OfficeUpdate display the already installed updates,
everything that should be there is reported to be actually there
except - guess what - KB822212 of course.

I've then downloaded the stand-alone patcher for KB822212 and this
updater displays a message telling me the patch is already installed!

Apparently, OfficeUpdate fails to detect that the patch has already
been applied and hence tries to reinstall it which fails because it is
already installed (as confirmed by the hotfix log file).

Any ideas how to fix the housekeeping of OfficeUpdate?

Kind regards,

Exactly the same here. The downloadable patch indicates that it has already
been applied, but Office Update list it as needed and fails on installation
after the download.

Thanks for your confirmation.

Do you have an idea how to get this message to Microsoft?

Hi Heinz,

See if clearing your temporary internet cache
in IE then revisiting
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate
still shows the issue. It was fixed on the U.S.
site as I understand it.

Hi Bob,

just checked it out and everything looks perfectly consistent now.
The issue has been resolved successfully.

Thanks & Regards,
