Newly opened documents hide

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel When I am working on a Word document, I often need to open another Word document for reference. Lately, I'm noticing that when I do this, the newly opened document "hides" behind the one I'm working on. If I already have 2 or 3 documents open, it also hides behind those so that it is the very hardest document to find. This is very annoying because if I have several windows open, I have to use Exposé to find the new document I just called up. In the past, the most recent document called up was always on top. I haven't changed any preferences or anything. Any idea what is causing this? I haven't noticed it in any other applications, although I work primarily in Word.

Without being able to prove it, I "think" this is caused by a fix that was
put in to overcome the problems with Spaces. On operating systems that
don't have Spaces, it leads to the reverse problem.

And "No", we do not know how to cure it. At least, I don't. But then, I am
running OS 10.6.2, so I only get the problem in FireFox...

Cheers

Actually [with no response from MacBU on this despite having submitted it
twice :-\] I've found that it's apparently a corrupt preferences issue. I
have no idea what causes it but I sure wish I could have the bad .plist file
analyzed ‹ It doesn't seem to be faulty in any other way.

See if this won't rectify it for you ‹ it did for me;

While Word isn't running go to User/Library/Preferences, rename the file
called com.microsoft.Word.plist (you can just add an x to the beginning of
the file name). When you launch Word it will generate a new one. If things
behave you can delete the renamed file.

I will definitely try renaming the file. It may take me a couple of days to notice if it works, but this sounds like it could be the sort of thing that could work. Thanks for the suggestion.

So far, this seems to be working. I haven't had much opportunity to work in Word this week, which is unusual. But it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks so much. I'll give it a little more time to be certain and then ditch the old plist file.
