News about Frontpage new version

Mark M Simonian

I think Frontpage needs a make over, or at least some new tools. Has
Microsoft forgotten about their product? Are we going to see something new
any day soon?

Anyone willing to share reports of a Frontpage 2006 release and what
features Mr Gates will add?

Much more important will be if they take out the features that shouldn't be
there any more ... such as hover buttons. And many get into trouble because
they only open a page rather than their site first. FP should receive all
features that are no longer suppoorted in IE. The photo galleries need a
serious overhaul, with the results being very amateurish at best.

To which FrontPage are you referring?

I agree with ETC, some stuff should be removed or at least a popup to
explain the shortcomings of using some features. Like...HEY...do you really
want to use Hover buttons? Or...You're opening a loose web page is this
really what you want to do?

No information is available at this time regarding the release of the next
edition of FP, which is expected "maybe" sometime in 2006 ;-)

Many people, me included, use FrontPage to create standalone pages. I use it
that way to mark up content before I put it into a database. How would you
suggest I do that if the File | Open [page] is removed?

You may have noticed that hover buttons are not activated in 2003 by
default. That's because it has been replaced by the newer javascript
behaviors. It is only there for those people who have current sites that use
them.

As far as the photo gallery, I agree that it should be overhauled. I have my
own wish list of things I'd like to see change, removed or replaced but I
unfortunately neither you nor I are in charge of the next version. So we'll
all have to wait and see.

FWIW, I'll open a single page in FP when I'm trying to figure out why
something isn't working in a post but I don't intend to keep the page
either.

I'm sure it works just fine for you. It's just that we get so many questions
here and the solution is to be sure that the site is open first.
