News Reader button missing, not on Customize window either, help!

[BigJDevine]

Added News Reader button to the Standard toolbar versus the Go menu. This
worked for awhile, then changed to doing something weird ... displaying an
explorer window of the Office/1033 directory instead of starting the news
reader. Dragged button off the toolbar back to the Customize window and it
disappeared completely. I can find it nowhere, not on any command list. I
can find no method for recovering the button and getting it to function
correctly. Anybody got a clue how to fix this?

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.

I've done the same thing as "BigJDevine". I followed your instructions but
do not know how to access the newsgroups. I still can't find the "news"
button anywhere. I'm not very computer knowledgeable so step by step info is
probably what I need. Thank you for your help in advance

Your ISP should be able to tell you what settings to use to access
newsgroups in your newsreader. Were I you, I'd not worry about the News
item in Outlook and just create a shortcut to Outlook Express wghose target
looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

Include the quotes and spaces. Put this shortcut either on your desktop or
in the Quick Launch area of your Taskbar.
