Newsgroup does not login

I am trying to access a newsgroup with Entourage 2008 but it doesn't get far; I can see the list of available subscriptions but I can't refresh it and I can't see any messages for any of these subscriptions. I have been able to access the newsgroup with Thunderbird with few problems (that app seems to have trouble sending messages to it sometimes).

When I attempt to do anything with it in Entourage, it hangs while logging in—the Progress window says "Logging in as jeremyschultz" and the number 285. I've verified settings are correct (SSL, port 563) and can't figure out what to do next. Any help would be appreciated!

Addendum: sometimes it does seem to get through, and just now it was able to refresh its subscription list. At that point I will start seeing this error whenever I try to access it:

Connection to the server failed or was dropped.
Error -17895

I'm assuming this is not one of the Microsoft servers, but a newsgroup that
requires login.

FWIW, the Entourage newsreader is pretty basic. You might find you'll revert
back to Thunderbird.

Thanks for the info, I thought Entourage would be able to handle that (yes, it's not a MS newsgroup and does require login). I will abandon Entourage for this purpose and go back to Thunderbird or a better app.

Thanks!

I have successfully used Entourage to access newsgroups that require login.
Double-check the settings against those the newsgroup host gave you. I'm
surprised that the settings you use for T-bird don't work for Entourage.

Good luck.

Thanks Ed, I've checked the settings many times and everything is correct. The company that runs this newsgroup directed me to use Outlook or Thunderbird like Diane did, but I'd like to use Entourage because that's where my mail is.
