Newsgroups (reading threaded messages while sorted by date)

This may just be something simple to do, but It's eluding me. I like to view
newsgroup messages ''threaded'' while they are sorted by ''date''. Outlook
Express on my XP PC does this just like I want it, but in Entourage, when I
sort by ''date and then ''thread'' the messages, it automatically reverts to
sorting the messages by ''subject'' alphabetically. This may not be a big
deal, but it bothers me. What gives?
By the way, I'm new to the Mac OS X Panther and Mac as a whole.

I don't think that can be done, at least with Entourage v.X. I would hope
they improved it in Entourage 2004, but I wouldn't count on it. Clicking on
the sent column to sort by it automatically removes the threaded option, and
you can't select it without reverting back to Subject column threading.

Entourage's news reading capabilities are limited. They are enough for your
normal posting, threading, receiving, and you can even make rules to
messages to simulate news-reader type "follow thread" etc. This is all many
people need.

If you require more than that, than I suggest trying out many of the
dedicated news-readers available. You can search versiontracker.com for a
complete list of them. Just about all of them offer some type trial. Some
are free.

When I need more complex news-reader functions, I turn to Unison. You can
check that out at:
<http://www.panic.com/unison/>

There is a 15 day trial period, after which favorites are disabled and a 10
minute limit is imposed.

If you're new to the Mac, then presumably your copy of Office v. X is new
too, which makes you eligible for a free update to Office 2004. Entourage
2004 lets you do this - and much more...

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.

I'll look into the update. Does Virtual PC come bundled with Office 2004?

It will ("Microsoft Office 2004 Pro") when VPC 7.0 is ready in a few months'
time. Not yet.
