Hi Bill Devine (

in the Microsoft® newsgroups
you posted:
|| I use Serif PagePlus 9 for my weekly local newspaper
|| A large number of small newspaper publishers use PagePlus
|| Overall PagePlus has superior features to Publisher for
|| newspaper publishing.
I know of one person, Mike Koewler, who uses PP for a newspaper. He actually
uses it religiously and it works wonders. But that is only one person I
know. Of all the local newspapers and even statewide newspapers, no one that
I know that does the layouts have ever used or heard of PP. (Serif needs
better marketing! ;-)
|| There is a Portfolio which you can
|| save and re-use items from in any file
This can be done with Microsoft Publisher's Design Gallery as well.
|| and has superior
|| drawing tools for advertisement creation, and importantly
PP has superior *text to shape* and 3d tools for text wrapping, but I would
beg to differ on the over all drawing tools being superior to Publisher's
drawing tools.
|| text and other defaults which Publisher does not have.
Actually, Publisher has what would be considered an unlimited number of
defaults. With the ability to create a phenomenal number of default addins,
addins, macros and auto features, toolbars and VBA to commercial printing
Object Models, the features in Publisher are endless. Microsoft has already
released free sample code add-ins from there site. There are a few surprises
coming for commericial printers as well from the commercial printing team
later this winter or early spring in regards to this territory.
|| PagePlus also has all you need built into the one program
|| like CMYK colour separation
Publisher has this as well.
||and PDF and PDF/X1 and PDF/X1a
A feature I would like to see in Publisher. Yet, there are many free options
out there.
|| I also use Serif DrawPlus 7 for other drawing purposes and
|| use PhotoImpact 5 for my paint and photograph retouching
|| program.

With Microsoft Publisher's marketsaturation and continued sales as well as
the PSPP program, it will make it much easier to find a commercial printer
to accept your native Publisher files with out too much of a worry of PDF
needs. But I still hope to see this in a future version.
