nicknames in 2007

Just upgraded to Office 2007 Professional from Office 2000 Professional. All
contacts information transferred from old Outlook to new, but I can no longer
type a nickname in the "To" line to have it automatically retrieve that
contact. This was a very useful feature because many contacts have multiple
email addresses. So for example, I could tpe "mom home" or "mom work" to get
the right information to pop up. If I simply type my mother's name, it won't
know which address I want to send it to. So the new version is less
functional -- it requires me to either memorize email addresses or take
multiple steps to search through the contacts listing.

No full version of Outlook has ever had such a feature. I suspect you were
using the IMO mode of Outlook 2000, which was actually used Outlook Express
for its addressing.
The last 3 versions of Outlook have an autocompletion feature that
completely obviates this long defunct "nickname" feature. What you will want
to do is build your autocompletion cache by sending messages. Once you do,
you'll forget all about nicknames.
