I recently had a computer replaced and noticed the autocomplete feature was
not working for me. Another user, whom also had their PC swapped out, also
mentioned this issue to me.
After looking up information about the NK2 file, what I discovered was that
the NK2 file was being created, but it was always staying empty, nothing was
being entered into the file (file was 0k and blank when opened through word
pad).
I tried deleting the NK2 file and starting over, creating a new mail
profile, and renaming and using the NK2 file from my old machine, but
nothing would cause anything new to be written to the Nk2 file (the old NK2
file worked, but no new addresses were being added to the file).
Then, randomly, I noticed a name was autocompleting. I opened the NK2 file
and saw that 2 addresses were in suddenly in the file. I looked at recently
sent items for an e-mail that contained these two names, and discoversed I
never sent them any e-mails that day, but I did invite the 2 people to a
calendar event. I tested a calendar event with another e-mail address and
the NK2 file succesfully updated with this new receipient.
So here's the issue: The NK2 file will update with an address used for a
calendar event, but it will not get updated if sending an e-mail message
(even if I leave Outlook open).
If this is actually a symptom for a lot of these issues on this message
board, then that would explain why people say the Autocomplete feature
sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The only names in the NK2 file would
be addreses that have been invited to a calendar event.
I really don't want to have to tell a customer that they have to send a test
(or offline) calendar event to all the people they want autocomplete to work
with, and selecting all the names from the GAL is not a possibility becuase
our user community is extremely large. There has to be a way for this to
work correclty.
Another user on the msg board has tested this partial functionality, and has
had the same results - Successful with calendar events, no good with e-mails.
Any ideas where to go from here?
