No access to directory

Hi all,

I've installed Office 2003 on a laptop. Everything works fine, except
Outlook. When you start Outlook for the first time, it starts a small
configuration (which is normal). But during this the configuration
always stalls on the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\System
\MSMAPI. I receive a warning that the directory can't be accessed.

When I use the Windows explorer to navigate to the directory, I get as
far as C:\Program Files\Common Files\System. I can click on the MSMAPI
directory, but then my pc gets jammed.

I've already tried to repair the Office installation and even
completely remove it, but I keep getting the error message, after
which the repairing or removing procedure ends.

Google haven't been a great help yet.

Can someone help me out of this?

Thanks.

Run the chkdsk hard drive repair tool against your c: drive.

Example:
* Select Start > Run
* Type: CMD
* OK button
* Type: chkdsk c: /r

You will have to reboot you computer in order for chkdsk to see if there are
any problems with your hard drive.
