no applications in copies and pages

I have a power mac G4, on which OSX 10.4.5 was recently installed.
Since that update I don't get any applications listed in the copies and
pages menu when I go to print. I discovered this problem when working
with powerpoint (2004 for Mac, version 11.2). A search of the
newsgroup revealed a similar problem for someone using OS 10.2.8 and
Powerpoint 10.1.5. The suggested solutions at that time (April 2004)
included repairing disk permissions. I tried that with no effect. The
other option suggested was to throw away powerpoint's preferences - if
that is still a possible fix, how do I go about it? Any other
suggestions?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Greg -
I don't get any applications listed in the copies and
pages menu

I'm not sure what you mean by "applications". Are you saying that when
you open the list there is _nothing_ there? What (if anything) *is* in
the list?

Does this happen *only* in PowerPoint... what about other programs?
Check out the Print dialog in non-Office apps as well (TextEdit,
Safari, etc.) and post back with your findings.

Sorry for the lack of info. I click on copies and pages and get a list
of options - layout, scheduler, paper handling, etc. with the last
option being summary. In the past the application I was working in
would show up in this list, just before the summary option. I could
click on powerpoint and then choose how to print a file (slides, number
of slides per page, outline, etc.). At present this does not happen
(i.e., there is no powerpoint option to select) but it seems to be
limited to applications that are on my machine - none of the Office
apps appear (powerpoint, word, excel) nor does text edit. Browsers,
however, do appear, at least Safari and Camino do.

Hope this is more clear.

Now I understand the situation, but unfortunately have no answer.
I have not seen any reference to this problem here or in Apple
Discussions, and have not experienced it myself. I would suspect (but
can't be sure) that it is related to the 10.4.5 update, which I have
been holding off on. Especially if you're certain that the problem did
not occur prior to that.

I will post back if I come up with anything, but in the meanwhile you
should still be able to work through "ProgramName">Preferences>Print.

Thanks for the attempt but I still have no luck. You noted that you do
have a listing for
Word in the Print dialog - I don't have it for Word either. Also, I
don't have a page setup button in my Print dialog box so no luck there
either.

Just for kicks, can you go to your Microsoft Office 2004/Office folder
and look for the files:
EntouragePrintPDE.plugin
ExcelPrintPDE.plugin
PowerPointPrintPDE.plugin
WordPDE.plugin

I was able to "bust" my print dialogs in Word, Excel and PowerPoint by
renaming them by putting the letter a in front of their filenames, then
launching those apps. All the custom UI for each of the apps that gets
added "went away". When I renamed them back, the UI came back.

Can you try recopying them from the Office CD?

I wasn't able to rename the files you suggested but I took the second
route. I reinstalled Office 2004 and also reinstalled Office X.
Office 2004 continued to give me problems so I trashed it and went back
to Office X. It may be a little older but it works.

Thanks for the help.
