No Back Button for After Hyperlink

I know the web toolbar is gone but how do I access forward and back buttons. I know there is a way to add these to the Quick Access Toolbar on the Windows versions of Office but what about Mac Versions.

I have a 400 page document with lots of hyperlinks. I am going through the document testing the hyperlinks but after I click the link, I have no way to get back where I started so I can continue testing. Everytime, I have to manually move back to where I started so I can continue testing. This is ridiculous and there has to be a way to jump back.

Right now, I have to make sure that all my documents are kept in the old word format and I move back to my PC and Word 2003 to test the hyperlinks.

Command + g, choose "Field" then select "HYPERLINK" where it says "Enter
field name".

Leave that dialog open so you do not have to reset it each time. (You can
use the Find dialog to do the same thing...)

Shift + F5 (Or Command + Option + z) will get you back to the previous
position of the cursor. Shift + F5 often gets stolen by Mac OS so you may
have to reclaim it. It cycles through the previous three positions of the
insertion point.

You may also want to display the Document Map while doing this. If you have
formatted your document correctly, it will provide a very useful outline.

Hope this helps

John,

Appreciate the reply but it doesn't quite do what I'm looking for. As an example, if I'm on page 2 of the document and I click a hyperlink that takes me to page 250, following the Command +g suggestion will only move me back to the next previous hyperlink in the document (which is probably on page 249, rather than moving me back to page 2 which is where I jumped from.

Unfortunately, I still don't see a practical alternative to using Office 2003 on my desktop PC.

Actually, my level of frustration with being a business user trying to make the switch to a MacBook with Office 2008 is so high that I'm almost ready to go back to a PC based laptop. Of course, this is probably exactly what Microsoft had in mind when they released Office 2008 :)

Thanks anyway,
Robert

Hi Robert:

If you want to get back to where you jumped from, Shift + F5 will take you
there (or Command + Option + z).

That is the built-in "GoBack" command, which cycles between the previous
three cursor locations.

Yes, I have Office 2004 and Office 2003 and Office 2007 loaded on this Mac,
along with Office 2008.

Office 2008 is "Office Lite" for the home user. It's reasonable for school
projects, but it's not a business tool.

You may wish to investigate Microsoft Desktop Connection for your Mac. That
was in the tin with Office 2004, but it's free and you can get it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx

It enables you to open a window into your desktop PC from your Mac. If you
have reasonable network bandwidth (e.g. Home office) it works REALLY well.
I used to use it a lot when I was too lazy to walk from the lounge to the
office at home, and needed to try out something on the PC.

Clive an Elliott are shrieking with laughter at this point, because they
have been to my place and know that the "Office" is the opposite corner of
the same room the lounge is in...

These days, I just use Parallels to fire up Windows on the Mac whenever I
need to. I just dropped in Parallels 4 -- if anyone is wondering, the speed
boost from the multi-processor ability in Parallels 4 is HUGE. I reckon
Vista runs faster on the Mac in Parallels than it does native on the PC...
It doesn't of course, particularly when it's working hard, but it sure feels
like it.

Cheers
