No Baseline Finish in the OLAP cube

Hello All,

Could you please explain me why there is no Baseline start and Finish field
available in the OLAP cube?
I have only been able to see the:
Baseline Cost
Baseline Work
Baseline Material Work
Baseline Material Cost
Baseline Budget Material Work
Baseline Budget Cost
Baseline Budget Work

Is there a solution to have them available?

Thank you,

Alfatcop

The fields you are describing are known as Total fields. Notice that each
one of them total up some value, such as Cost and Work. How could you total
up Finish dates or Start dates? That's why. Hope this helps.

Alfatcop,
hmmm where to start :)

this is because of the OLAP cube technology. OLAP cubes are used for
analysis of data ( e.g. accumulation of costs and work). Dates cannot be
accumulated and therefore it would generally not make sense to include them
into an olap cube as a measure. having said this, of course you want to
analyse start and finish dates. Thats why I would recommend to use the
Project Server reporting Database. You could use the Report builder from SQL
to easily create your own reports which would give you all the date related
information that you are after.

Look this is a very general reason, and there are of course ways to disaplay
the start and finish date in an olap cube ( as a dimension element
attribute), but generally I would report date related information directly of
the reporting DB.
Please feel free to ask more specific questions and i hope this clarified
why start and finish dates are not in the OLAP cube

Thank you Marc for your quick answer.
It seems that there is no other solution that using the Reporting Services.

Unfortunately I can say I know pretty much nothing about SQL. And the more
disappointing to me is that when I feel confident with one aspect of Project
Server I stumble with new technical obstacles requiring extra knowledge such
as:
- Sharepoint
- SQL
- Visual Studio
- Excel Services
- etc....

Coming from the Project Mgmt side and not from the technical side ...this is
very much more than challenging.

Any way, thanks for your help
