no custom install wizard during xp setup

when trying to install office xp on my new laptop, the
setup simply goes to install by itself leaving me no
options. when the installation is finished, all the
programs appears to be installed by default settings but
when i try to run it it shows up as 'unknown user'
and 'unknown id' or something when the splashscreen shows
up and it starts to run a setup for a second before the
program simply terminates.

how do i get the setup to run the custom install wizard
so that i can use my cdkey and customize the setup? i
also tried under add/remove program the 'change function'
but nothing works.
