No English dictionary after English language pack was installed

Boris

In order to correct docs in English I've just bought the English Language
Pack for Office 2007 (German version) installed on Windows Vista Ultimate
English.

While the installation went well and the menus have changed to English, the
option of changing the dictionary to English is missing.

Neither in the language settings menu nor in the correction options did the
English dictionary and ability to correct in this language show up.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks!

I have United States Vista Ultimate with Spanish and German languages
installed, also United States English Office 2007 with Spanish and German
language packs installed. I do not see any problem like you describe.
Languages available to me in Spell Checking are Deutsch, Englisch,
Französisch, Spanisch, Portugiesisch (Brasilien), Baskisch, Italienisch,
Galizisch, and Katalanisch. Now before you installed English Language Pack,
which as far as I know is -not- necessary to correct English language docs
in Office 2007, German Version, did you have English Language Proofing Tools
available in your German Language Version of Office? According to the
following page, the German version of Office comes with Proofing Tools for
German, English, French and Italian. In fact all versions come with
Proofing Tools for English.

What happens if you go to Start, Alle Programme, Microsoft Office, Microsoft
Office Tools, Microsoft Office 20007 Language Settings, and change the
language back to Deutsch? Another thing to try, after making sure you have
a backup of your English Language Pack install file or media, is to
uninstall it from the computer, and then see if you can correct English
language docs in the German user interface.

Earle, thanks for your reply.

I've given the problems some thought in the meanwhile and came up with the
following explanation: I bought my version of office 2007 enterprise edition
through the Home Use Program of my employer. Maybe there are some limitations
Now before you installed English Language Pack,

No, I did not have the English language proofing tools. This is one of the
reasons why I bought the English language pack. The only languages that were,
and still are, available to me for proofing are German, French and Italian. I
have rerun the setup and tried to add the feature "English proofing tools".
Although the installation seems to have taken place, I still can't use
proofing in English. In the language settings, English is under "limited
support".

my version did not come with English proofing tools (see above).
What happens if you go to Start, Alle Programme, Microsoft Office, Microsoft
Office Tools, Microsoft Office 20007 Language Settings, and change the
language back to Deutsch?
Nothing changes. I still have the same three languages available for
proofing. It is just the interface language that changes.

Another thing to try, after making sure you have
a backup of your English Language Pack install file or media, is to
uninstall it from the computer, and then see if you can correct English

I have uninstalled the English Language Pack from my computer and still
couldn't use the proofing tools in English. Even after reinstallation was I
not able to use proofing in English.
The next step would certainly be to uninstall office 2007 from my computer
and reinstall it.
Any other suggestions?

"Limited support" means that you don't have a keyboard defined for English
in Regional and Language Settings, Keyboards. It doesn't have anything to
do with the presence of absence of proofing tools. In English that would be
Control Panel, Regional and Language Configuration, Keyboards and Languages,
Change Keyboards. In that screen add English and whatever keyboard layout
you are using. If you have the Language Bar installed then right click on
it, Settings, and add English from that screen. Now it should work.

When you choose Review tab, Language, does English appear with "ABC" and a
check mark to the left of it? That means you have English Language Proofing
Tools installed.

I don't think it could have anything to do with Enterprise Edition, but I
could be wrong.

"Limited support"
Thanks for the explanation. BTW, I don't have an issue with the keyboard.

No, it doesn't.

I've checked all possible settings, but there is no hint that I have set
something wrong.
Do you know of a way of contacting Microsoft about this w/o having to pay
several hundred $ for technical support?

Thanks,
Boris

I don't either, but unless I define a keyboard for each language I write in
then the other ones appear with "limited support". It is true that one can
write Spanish with US International or English with German keyboard
installed. The "limited support" designation doesn't mean anything, except
that you might not be able to type some characters.
No, it doesn't.

That means that the English Language Proofing Tools either are not installed
or are installed incorrectly, something you knew already.

No I don't. I would try a step by step reinstall of all the software you
are using. In Office Setup, Custom Install make sure that Office Shared
Features, Proofing Tools, English Proofing Tools is set to something other
than "Not Available" (or the equivalent in the German language user
interface). You should not need the English Language Pack installed to be
able to proof in English. You might want to make an image backup of your
system partition before trying to fix these sorts of things. I have seen
installs go bad, while on reinstall the program works as designed "for no
reason".

Earle,
Thanks! Will try on occasion.
