No flashing cursor in Design view w/FP3

K

Kerry

I just upgraded to FrontPage2003 and all appears to be OK except that the
flashing cursor doesn't flash when in Design view as it does when in Code
view. The "I" beam moves correctly and I can edit if I can remember where I
clicked the cursor to be.
Also, I noticed that the cursor doesn't appear in the "Search For:" field
for "FrontPage Help."

I have the exact same problem with my FP3 install on my other XP Home (dual
boot) D drive. The D (logical) drive install was a true clean install. Both
my C and D drive have XP Home as the OS. I get to choose which drive during
boot.

Suggestion please.

Thanks, Kerry
XP Home

BTW: Flawless "Clean" install from upgrade CD.
Most favorite new feature: Dual monitor.

On Windows XP Professional, I get the same flashing
cursor as ever. Here are some things to try:

o Check your setting under Control Panel, Mouse,
particularly on the Pointers and Pointer Options
tabs.
o Disable any mouse-pointer enhancement software
you may have installed.
o Upgrade to the latest video drivers.

Hi Jim:

1) I use XP Home.

2) I checked the mouse pointer settings. All are set at default.

3) I upgraded to the latest (v 6.02) Kensington Mouseworks driver (I have
the Expert Mouse Pro (4 button).

4) I upgrade to nVidia's latest 45.23 driver (I have the GE Force FX5600
card & DirectX 9.0 installed).

And still no cursor or flashing cursor in FP3 Design view. It does display
and flash when it's in Code view. The "I" beam appears correctly in both
views.

So, I unistalled FP3 and reinstalled FP2K and voila, the flashing cursor.

Then I upgraded FP2K to FP2003 and no flashing cursor.

The Control Panel for Keyboard allows me to change the cursor's flashing
speed (I have a MS Office Keyboard).

Curiouser and curiouser :=). Have we found a bug?

Thanks,

Kerry

Either that, or a remarkably bug-like feature.

Under Control Panel, Mouse, Pointers, I have Scheme set to Windows
Default (System Scheme). You might want to check that.

Under Control Panel, Accessbility Options, Display, Cursor Options, I
have Blink Rate set about 60% toward Fast and Width all the way on
Narrow.

I check all that you mentioned.

was set as you recommend.

it was set as you recommend. I changed it to 55% just to reset it.

Thanks for hanging it there.

Do you have access the the beta team? Maybe we could mention it to them.
They might have run accross this before, they might have some clues.

I've been upgrading since FP98. This is the first time I've had such a
problem.

Tonight I'm going to delete C and clean install XP Home and then FP3 before
installing anything else.

Thanks,
Kerry

The beta is done. I've already done a search of Microsoft's Knowledge
Base and found no obvious hits.

I can do a bug report but that's no quick fix. Also, to be effective,
a bug report really needs to include instructions to reproduce the
problem. In other words, you have to know how to cause the bug, fix
it, cause it, fix it. Otherwise, the developers azre looking for a
needle in a haystack.

Sounds drastic. If you can revert to a Microsoft mouse driver before
doing that, it's worth a try.

Have you also tried several other cursor styles to see if they all don't work, and at different resolutions
Also check all your mouse settings
- there is one w/ many drivers or utilities which is hide cursor location that may be turned on

I don't know if you have resolved this issue yet. I have been having the same exact problem. Upgrade from FP2000 to 2003 under XP Pro and no cursor in design view. I seem to have fixed this by going into Accessability Options under the Cntl Panel. After making no changes but just applying... the cursor returned! Hope this helps

Had the same problem...resolved thru going to accessibility options and adjusting the cursor size. Hmmmm

This worked for me too, but I didn't want the wider cursor, so after adjusting it, I simply adjusted it back to its narrowest width and it still worked.

Start >> Control Panel >> Accessibility Options (icon with wheel chair) >> Accessibility Options (again) >> Mouse tab >> Display tab >> Sliding Width bar at the bottom -- increase the width (and then put it back to narrow if you like)
