No font format changes possible

If I type a font style into Word, I cannot change text from regular to
Italics, or to another font. Seems frozen. Please advise.

Hi F.D,.,

You didn't mention the version of Word you're using, so not much to go on, <g> but one of the things to check is that you have a
printer active in Word (File=>Print prior to Word 2007) that supports truetype fonts).

If Word 2007, it's possible, if it was a trial version, that the trial period may have expired.

Bob,
thank you for responding so promply. I am using MS Word 2003, and it is a
full version, paid for. The printer has always handled the fonts used. So I
am puzzled by the fact that even if I type in, say Arial 12, and the moment I
cannot make it another Arial size, or italicize it...or bold it. Seems like
I should uninstall word and start over. Perhaps the application is corrupted?

Are you saying that when you try to make the change the formatting toolbar
doesn't reflect your settings or that you don't see the change on the
screen? If the latter, is it possible that you have "Draft font" selected in
Normal view (Tools | Options | View)?
