no hyperlink on online layout of table of contents

Greetings! I am trying to make a front of the document table of
contents. I inserted a TOC from Index & Tables into my blank first
page. I formatted the headings. My problem is that the table of
contents has no hyperlinks to the headings in the document. I am using
the Online Layout view and still no hyperlinks.

I have a PowerBook G4 and Word v.X.

The hyperlinks are on the page numbers - are you not seeing the
cursor turn to a hand pointer when hovering over page numbers?
