No Ident Numbering

In Word 2000 - I do not want the numbering (numbers) to
ident. I can change this for one document but cannot
seem to make it the default. Also, Word 2000 will not
capitalize the first letter in my numbered list like it
did in Word 97. Why?

Instead of using the Numbering toolbar button, apply the List Number style,
which I think is just what you need, but if it's not you can modify it to
look the way you want.

As for your second question, MS changed the behavior of this AutoCorrect
option between Word 97 and Word 2000. We can deplore their reasoning in
doing so (I'm assuming it's because a lot of users complained that they
didn't want numbered lists automatically capitalized), but there's no way to
change the new behavior, which extends beyond numbered lists even to numbers
within the document text. <sigh>
