no images after website is published

C

cmd

I have read the other comments about FP2003 not publishing the inserted
graphics and can still not get my graphics to appear on a published website.
I have uploaded each graphic, individually to my client's webserver. I have
all graphics in the "images" folder as well as the body of the file and still
cannot get ANY of the graphics (and there are many) to appear.

I am frustrated and need your help. But might not understand some of the
suggestions already made, like having the graphics inserted within the web.

Thanks!

My guess would be that your image links are pointing to file locations on
your hard drive. This happpens when you edit an HTML document without
opening the web it is in first.

Front Page uses a concept called a disk based web to
store all of the content that will wind up in your
published website (the so-called server based web).

When you File | New | Page or web | Web (this is for
2002. It may be slightly different for your version),
Front Page creates a special folder. You then create your
pages (File | New | Page or web | Page) and save it
within this web.

When you want to include graphics on your pages, File |
Import these images into the Front Page web from
elsewhere on your hard drive before placing the image
onto a page. If you do not perform this Import step, when
you use the graphic the link that Front Page creates will
be to the copy of the graphic elsewhere on your hard
drive (as suggested by Kevin).

You can also check to see if this is the case by viewing
your page in HTML view. You may not understand the HTML
(I certainly don't) but if you see your image file names
preceded by a C: it means the hyperlink is not pointing
correctly.

Another point is to be sure that any changes you make to
your disk based site are done using Front Page with your
web opened. Do NOT make any changes to filenames or
whatever from Windows Explorer (unless of course you want
a screwed up site).

I hope this gives you a better understanding of what is
happening and what is required. If it is any consolation,
this is probably the MOST asked question on this
newsgroup. If you would like some more information, look
through the posts in this newsgroup. Some folks have even
made webpages with instructions and hints on this subject.

Dear Rick:
Thank you so much for your carefully written and detailed response to my
quandry. I habitually use the File/Insert Graphics function, not the
File/Import function. Maybe that's the problem.

Thank you again, for your help. I hope it works because I am about ready to
throw my PC right out the window and abandon all future website development
projects!

Open a FP web (File Open Web or File Open Site)
Then File Import your images Before you use them
Then use File Insert Picture (From File) and browse to them w/i your web/site

Front Page uses a concept called a disk based web to
store all of the content that will wind up in your
published website (the so-called server based web).

Incorrect. FrontPage can use disk-based or server-based webs, both as
development webs, and as published webs. Your local web does NOT have to be
disk-based. In fact, none of mine ever are disk-based on the development
machine, since they are usually active server pages of one kind or another.

In other words, there is no "FrontPage concept" of a disk-based web that
you do your development on. Disk-based webs were around before FrontPage.
FrontPage simply accomdates disk-based webs. The concept has nothing
whatsoever to do with any development environment requirement.
