Hello kind support person,

There's one domain that consistently gets sent to my junk mail folder. Both email addresses from that domain are in my address book, and I've added the domain to my safe domains list. I've also checked the mailing list manager but it's empty.

My contacts were imported 4 months ago from my PC. Could some screwy setting have been imported along with them?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Rob

Hello kind support person,

This is not an official Microsoft support forum. We are your peers.
There's one domain that consistently gets sent to my junk mail folder. Both
email addresses from that domain are in my address book, and I've added the
domain to my safe domains list. I've also checked the mailing list manager but
it's empty.

When you say those domains are in your Address Book, are you referring to
YOUR address or the contacts you receive?

All messages will go to either the Inbox or Junk unless you have a rule that
is moving them. There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage and they
run in the order listed.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Each type of account has it's own rules. Click on the correct tab to check
your rules. (Mail (POP), Mail (IMAP) Mal (Windows Live Hotmail) Mail
(Exchange), News, Outgoing)

You said your Mailing List Manager is empty, so you next check your Junk
Mail Filter settings. The JMF never assigns messages from contacts in your
Address Book to the Junk category. Which brings us to your next question.
My contacts were imported 4 months ago from my PC. Could some screwy setting
have been imported along with them?

Yes. Open the contact and click on the Categories icon. Select Assign
Category. Is "Junk" assigned to this category?

If you find that the contacts are correct then the next step is to look at
your Rules. Check each rule to see if that category is being sent to Junk
folder. Rule folder destinations can get reset and send messages to the
wrong folder.

FWIW, adding safe domains is not 100%. It's best to add contacts to the
Address Book.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:

Well, thank you so much, Diane! What a pleasure to get such a prompt and thorough response.

I'm at a loss. I believe I followed your process correctly, but nothing was amiss:

1) I confirmed that both email addresses (from the same domain) that are being sent to my junk folder are in my address book.

2) The MLM is (still) empty.

3) The JMF is set to "Low", I've added the domain to my Safe Domains list, and the domain is not in my Blocked Senders list.

4) Neither contact is assigned to a category.

5) I have no rules.

And now for some groping in the dark. Here are a few quirks about my email that may be relevant:

1) I believe I had Office 2004 Test Drive installed on my Mac a few years ago. Ever since I installed Entourage, it's called me Office 2004 Test Drive User (only locally, thank goodness).

2) I access my email from my iPhone, and occasionally from my PC running Outlook 2007. But neither was used when the most recent emails were incorrectly sent to Junk.

Does this shed any light?

Thanks,

Rob

1) I believe I had Office 2004 Test Drive installed on my Mac a few years ago.
Ever since I installed Entourage, it's called me Office 2004 Test Drive User
(only locally, thank goodness).

I seem to remember the "test drive user" was entered in Word. Open Word
preferences. Select User Info and see if it's listed there.
2) I access my email from my iPhone, and occasionally from my PC running
Outlook 2007. But neither was used when the most recent emails were
incorrectly sent to Junk.

This shouldn't affect moving messages to wrong folder.

When we have a problem that we can't solve, we try to isolate where the
problem is located.

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there.

Let me know what a new Identity and/or a new User account shows. Remember to
set "leave on server" when testing for account.

Changing my Word preferences worked! Thank you!

I'll try creating a new Identity in a couple days and let you know how it goes.

Have you made sure the domain is not in the Blocked Senders list? It's
right next to the Safe Domains list.
