A mix of AppleScript and Automator is that's probably necessary. They
are slower to run (on my powerbook G4). It's not as convenient, because
you can't put them on the toolbar. But I've replaced about one-third of
mine, at this point, and the ones I've replaced seem to work fine.
How well they work will depend on exactly what you need them to do.
