No New Mail icon using Exchange with server-side rules

We're testing a new Exchange 2003 server.

In the past, on our old IMAP server, I would always get a new mail icon in
the dock upon receiving messages. On the Exchange server I have created
(through MS Outlook 2003) a lot of rules that pre-filter messages into
subfolders at the server-side. Now when I get new messages, unless their
destination is the Inbox, I get no new mail icon in the dock. Anyone else
confirm this?

BTW, on our old IMAP server I also pre-filtered messages at the server side
into subfolders yet I still always got new mail icon.

Hove you got the acocunt settings set to check for new mail in subscribed
folders? It's a setting in the 'options' pane of the IMAP account settings.
