no notification sounds in Word since installing Tiger

I'm installing apps fresh on to a new PowerBook with Tiger
pre-installed. I've installed the Office 2004, done updates on it to
take it to the latest version. I wasn't getting any notification sound.
So I've checked Help in Word to see how to activate notification sounds
(such as when saving a doc) and followed those instructions.

When I double-click on Office Notification Sounds within the Office
folder in the Finder (either with or without Word running), it seems to
immediately launch and quit in a split-second, with no chance to set
notification sounds. I had no problem with using these sounds when
running the same version of Office 2004 on my office G5 with OS 10.3.9.
Is this an incompatibility between Word and Tiger? Or am I doing
something wrong and it *should* work.

Ya know, no one has Help memorized, so it would make much more sense to say
what you did instead/as well as of saying "I followed the instructions in
Help." That just means someone trying to help has to go to extra trouble to
look it up. I've noticed a few people doing this lately, though mostly not
here, so just thought I would try to head that habit off at the pass. :)

Anyhow, in Word | Preferences, General tab, make sure "provide feedback with
sound" is checked. I'm pretty sure Office Notifications is referring to
something different.

Exactly. Office Notifications are the reminder messages for appointments and
tasks, and these can be controlled from within Entourage. Dennis, the way I
understand it, you are NOT referring to the Office Notifications, but to the
feedback sounds, and these can be configured in Word (and also in Excel and
Powerpoint) the way Daiya described it.
