No Office Assistant Character Files Present...?

S

Scott

I'm running Office 2003 (academic edition) as well as
FrontPage XP and Publisher XP.

When I load Outlook 2003, everything is great. But when I
load PowerPoint 2003 or Word 2003, I'm greeted with this
dialogue box:

"There are no Office Assistant character files
present on the system. Please run Setup in
maintenance mode and install at least one
character."

I click "OK," and the program works just fine. Unless, of
course, I go to the "Help" menu and select "Show the
Office Assistant" (which simply brings up that same
dialogue box again).

Interestingly, I can see the Office Assistant in Outlook
2003, or either of the Office XP programs.

So I've run Setup again, installed every single Office
Assistant available, verified that everything is
installed correctly, etc. But the problem persists.

Help?

There's a problem with side-by-side installations of XP and 2003 when the
Assistant is used. Have you tried uninstalling the Assistant in XP?

I have similar problem. I have OFFICE 2000 but FrontPage 2003. After installing FP2003, all the Office 2000 programs complain about not having Office Assistent character. It gives this message
"There are no Office Character files present on the system. Please run SETUP in matainence mode and install at least one character.
What is "maintenance mode"? Is this another word for "SAFE MODE".
Actually I don't want the office assistent and specifically said not to install it when I installed FP 2003. Can't this message go away??
