No option to accept or decline task in Outlook

When I receive a task assigned to me by another person I have the option to
accept or decline. When I create a task assigned to another person they
receive the task as a normal e-mail and do not have the option to accept or
decline. It doesn't end up in their task list. Why ?

I have Outlook 2003 with SP2.

For what account type? And are you sending these internal or external? What
client is the recipient using?

Robert,

The account type is "Exchange (default)". Is this what you mean ? My account
(where I create the task) and the recipient are both on the same mail server
on an internal LAN. The recipient and I are both using MS Outlook as bundled
with MS Outlook 2003.
