No Outlook 2007 desktop alert

I have exactly this problem on a client's computer and it's driving me nuts.

The computer is a brand new Dell running Vista and Office 2007. Office is a clean install, only been in since November. Outlook is not maximised. Single monitor, Desktop alert test functions perfectly, all e-mails come in to the Inbox, no rules diverting them. Yellow envelope appears OK on task bar but NO DESKTOP ALERT.

I have researched this extensively and Bob it seems it's just thee and me with this problem. But it does exist!

Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?

Did you look to see if the setting is clicked in Outlook? It is a couple of
clicks into the Options area.

There's a way to set the "toast" notification for as long as you'd like.
