Hi, a couple of days ago I made an inquiry for help. Apparently, not to many
people are facing the problem I am.

The problem is with the syntaxis of the getpivotdata in excel for windows
and excel for mac. In excel for mac it lacks arguments and thus, whenever I
opened the file that was created in windows, I get an error.

I have sent microsoft a petition to make the formulas the same. So, that
users in windows are not left out and vice versa.

Apparently, microsoft doesn't seem to agree with this, and pretends to keep
a gap between Mac and Windows. That's understood. But, then again make fair
competition !!!

I am terribly disturbed by the fact that I cannot open correctly the file in
my Mac because I get errors all over the place. To solve this issue, I only
see three viable solutions are :

A) Get a Windows PC
B) Get a new Mac with the Intel Processor and run parallel
C) Re-program all my spreadhseet ( over 30,000 cells )

It's funny, and I am really upset about this.

Again, if anyone wants to help me. Please lets send a petition to the
Microsoft Business Unit for Mac.

Thanks to all,

A very unsatisfied Microsoft Client

Note that the WinXL GETPIVOTDATA function was changed in WinXL03, IIRC.
I know that XL97 and XL00 didn't work with the new syntax - I just can't
remember if it changed in XL02 or XL03.

Changes in either Mac or Win versions generally take a version or two to
migrate from one platform to the other (for example, List Manager
started on the Mac, and migrated to WinXL, though not entirely
compatibly).

One should definitely let MacBU know (via this newsgroup) what features
you want in future versions.

JIM,

Thanks for your response. Where should I send the message so that it is
heard. I really need this feature function working.

I appreciate anything you can do and let me know. At least I would like to
know if this is feasible and when. After all, I use Mac's and need to know
if this is something that I need to reconsider.

BY the way, is there and Office Beta for MAC release yet ?

This is the best place, according to MacBU.

It will certainly not be available until MacXL12, at the earliest.
That's likely to mean 2008, as I'd expect at least a year between
release of a win version and the following Mac version. The next Mac
version, in addition to being recoded to work natively on Intel Macs,
will also have to cope with the new file formats and, for XL, the
expansion in sheet sizes.

Not yet - and I've no idea when such a beta program would be available.

I've been following your posts and the responses. Unfortunately, as you
discovered, this works differently on Macs and Windows. Another way to
express you concern is to use Send Feedback on the Help menu. I, and many
others here like J.E., make our livings by preparing Excel applications that
work on both Macintosh and windows platforms. In order to do this reliably,
we use the "lowest common denominator" of features. Therefore, for the
foreseeable future, your only viable solution is option C, recode the
application. You should, of course, express your disappointment and requests
via any of the avenues, discussed, but do not "hold your breath" expecting a
solution.

Maybe my idea of "soon" is different than yours. But once again, If you need
your application to work on both platforms, the only solution for the
foreseeable future (I'm guessing a couple of years) is to recode it. I think
it is completely unrealistic for you to expect that this will be "fixed" in
an update release, or even that it will be "fixed" in the next major release
of Office:Mac. Work with what works, not what you hope will work.
