Greetings,

When I try to do a search within a WSS site on PS 2007, I get this result:
No results matching your search were found

I know for a fact that I have word documents etc with the word I am
searching for in the title and in the file itself. I have enables searching
via Central Administration. Does anyone know what can cause this?

That sounds like a SharePoint Search issue that you have. only activating the
search in SharePoint is not enough have you also triggerd the crawl and
ensured that you indexed the search?
If not, you may want to read up on how SharePoint Search is configured
Hope this points you in the right direction

Marc,

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my post. I did quite
a bit of digging before posting. I created a new database after reading that
my DB could have been corrupted. I have enabled indexing (every 59 minutes).
The biggest challenge I have is that I installed WSS on another server
before, and after doing the same steps, search worked fine. Thus, I am unsure
why PS2007 is so different. Could this have to do with the Shared Service
Provider?

Marc,

I found the answer, not sure if it will help anyone. For search to work in
WSS 3 SP2 (not sure about other SP's) there needs to be a site at the root
level.

In my case:

My project WSS sites are created on http://devapp06:83/PWA/(project name
here) Search failed since it cannot see a site at http://devapp06:83. I
tested this by entering this URL in IE and it returns an error page.

I created a new top level site for http://devapp06:83, which means I was
able to browse to this URL successfully, so search and indexing ran fine.

I am a bit upset by this. When I looked at the installation documentation
for the section on “Create Project Web Access Siteâ€, I noticed it says you
can enter a “project web access pathâ€. Since I chose “PWAâ€, I ended up with
http://devapp06:83/PWA/. I did not see anything along the lines of:

"If you decide to do this, the path will be
http://servername:portnumber/(what you enter in the project web access path
field) and WSS search will not work unless you manually create a top level
site at the http://servername:portnumber level."

As the good people at Microsoft built the PS 2007 installer and wrote the
installation doc, I am a bit disappointed that no one walked over to the WSS
group and asked them if search in WSS would work with an install of PS 2007
if someone actually typed in a project web access path.

As an MVP, perhaps you can pass this on to someone who can make a note and
at least update the installation documentation, or perhaps update this part
of the install page to add a note indicating that if you fill out the project
web access path, search will not work unless you yourself create a top level
site for the SSP. I spent a lot of time on Google researching corrupt content
db’s, AAM’s, permissions in SQL, etc that had nothing to do with my error. A
few sentences in the PS 2007 doc would have avoided the issue entirely.

Thank you again for responding to my question.
