No send/receive unless send/receive is pressed

I now have multiple customers who are experiencing the same issue.

Windows XP with Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Everything is patched
current.

Without warning Outlook suddenly stops automatically sending and receiving
emails unless the Send/Receive button is pressed. Nothing has changed in the
configuration and Outlook is configured to send immediately when online.

Any ideas?
