no sound alert for new email

The sound for new mail is flagged as is the advanced user option to play a
sound for incoming mail. Speakers are working, but no sound happens when new
mail arrives.

Is there a sound file associated with the new mai arrival event? 'Control
Panel|Sounds and Audio Devices|Sounds', find the "New Mail Notification"
event in the list and make sure a sound is attached to it.
