No sound from DVDs

This may be a Media Player question, or perhaps not as it applies to Real
Player also.

I get no sound when I try to play a DVD. As recently as a month ago, I had
sound, but now nothing. I till have on/off chimes, and I can play Internet
radio or use a stand-alone player (Real Player) as BBC suggests. But when I
try to play DVDs - nothing. I have searched to make sure no mute buttons are
active. Also, music CDs are not a problem. They play just fine
