Hello,
From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you wonder why the
inserted sound files are not played when the presentation is saved as
movie, and how to workaround it. If I'm off base, please feel free to let
me know.
I have reproduced the issue on a Mac computer with Office 2008. In my best
guess, it is because
(1) the sound files are of type MP3 or midi
-or-
(2) they are too large to be embeded in the presentation file.
Instead, they are linked from a location on your hard disk or the internet.
See: <I can't hear a sound file>

"Note Some sound file formats, such as MP3 and MIDI, and files that are
larger than the size set in your PowerPoint Preferences, are not embedded
in the presentation when you insert them. Instead, they are linked from a
location on your hard disk or the Internet. To define the file sizes for
linked sound files, on the PowerPoint menu, click Preferences, and then
click General."
Would you try to enlarge the embeded sound file limit as mentioned in the
above link if the sound files are not mp3 / midi.
-or-
convert the mp3/midi to other sound format? I am also asking the
development team for more information.
