No space at top of page

When I start up Word-XP, there is no margin at the top of the blank
page for new docs (print layout). Zero, zippo, none. The text is right
up against the top of the page. The ruler shows that the cursor is at
0" vertically.

Margins are standard Word default as are headers & footers. Changing
to Web or Normal view and back to Print does not correct it. However,
if I View->Headers / Footers, then just close the header/footer
toolbar when it appears, all is back to normal, and the cursor is at
1" vertically.

Suggestions?

Sounds like the "hide White Space" option is on. In Word 2003, if you hold
the cursor at the top of the page, the icon will change into what is supposed
to look like a symbol of the edges of two pieces of paper. Simply left-click
once and the white space should re-appear.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.
