No Spell Tab in Prefs.

I cannot access my spelling and grammar checker in the preferences tab, and have no spell checking capabilities. I cannot remember if/how I input this matter on "first run" or if that had any effect in this case.

I can run spell check if I launch word from the CD, but not from installed version on HD

Help please.

IF this is so, have you you tried running setup and changing your install
parameters to install the files locally? Is this a recent problem or has it
always been like this?

The Word and Windows versions would be very helpful to distinguish various
cases of this problem.

I am using Office for Mac, and have no installer. I used the drag and drop method, which is recommended. 1st I draged the Office folder to my HD, then each individual app. I also dragged the Shared Apps. folder to my HD, which contains the Spelling program. I assume the Word program goes to the shared file when you ask it to check spelling.

Every feature of Office works just fine, except the Spell & Grammar checker.

In the absence of "install" can I place the spell files where Word can find them?

Thanks for your reply. This problem has set me back conciderably.

For this type of problem, you are probably better off re-posting in the NGs:

microsoft.public.mac.office.word (or .excel, .powerpoint, .entourage, fyi)
microsoft.public.mac.office

as the majority of people on this forum will not be familiar with installing
anything on a Mac. When you repost on a different group, mention OS and
Office version, and make it clear whether you are installing from a CD or
moving the installed program from one drive to another.

Also note that if you open the CD folder and scroll down, you may find an
actual installer that gives you more control, even though the first thing
you see are the instructions to drag and drop the folder.

I had problems once because I was installing Office 2001 in OS 9 but had
neglected to reboot with extensions off.

Thanks, Dayo, but what is "the NGs"??? I ended up at this forum by clicking on a botton at the Mac forum. I see also that many PC users are having the same problem. I remember having this problem years ago when I first started using Word. It seems MicroSoft is not concerned with this.

NGs = newsgroups. You're posting in one
