No transport provider...?

Howdy,

In OL2000 with Win2000 Pro...

I just composed a message, and clicked Send. It went to my Outbox, and
then was gone.

Moments later, I received a message from "System Administrator" with
the Subject: "Undeliverable." That contained the following:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: RE: Bread!
Sent: 7/15/2004 7:33 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'Joe Blow' on 7/15/2004 7:33 AM
No transport provider was available for delivery to this
recipient.

I then immediately clicked to re-send, and (no big surprise here) got
precisely the same result.

But then, I tried it again, and the message went out successfully,
that is, with no such message appearing.

And so, I have two questions:

What is the error message actually telling me? And, why might it have
corrected itself in the few seconds it took for me to re-send the
message the third time?

Thanks for any information,

Do you connect to both Internet Mail and Exchange in the same profile? This
isn't supported in versions of Outlook prior to OL2002, and will invariably
cause this problem eventually. You can a) upgrade Outlook b) ditch POP and
host your domain's Internet mail directly on the Exchange server or c) set
up another profile for your internet mail exclusively.

Hello again,

No, (I should have mentioned this, but) we do not use Exchange...

Ours is a Corporate or Workgroup setup. We do use Microsoft Mail
between systems on our 5 node net.

With that information, what would you suggest?

Thanks,

Hello again,

I thank you for suggesting those articles, and I have read them both
with care, but...

It is difficult for me to understand why the problem "corrected
itself." That is, on the third try, the message went out properly. I
had changed absolutely nothing, I simply clicked Send (and it failed),
clicked Re-send (and it failed), clicked Re-send (and it succeeded.)

Nothing in the two articles would seem amenable to simply "trying
again."

It is that aspect of the situation that has me baffled.

Of course, I would welcome any other ideas you might have.

Sincere thanks, once again,
