NO vertical lines in basic spreadsheet

I have just loaded my Office XP pro 2002 onto my new new computer replacing
my retiring one. When I open Excell, there are no vertical lines on the basic
spreadsheet, only horizontal. I can perform all the functions but can see the
vertical lines showing edge of cells. Have re-installed again and same
result. When I download a perfectly good spreadsheet from another computer,
vertical lines are removed. I can't find any instruction to correct this.
Please help.

Unfortunately we can't offer much on this type of issue here in the group
for Mac Excel - it sounds like a Windows-specific & possibly hardware

I had the same problem with one of the computers in my office.
I managed to fix it by playing around with the monitor settings, and by
resetting them to the factory settings.

I don't know if this solution would work on a Mac, but you may want to play
around with your resolution settings and see if that helps at all.
