No watermark is selected - yet watermark remains?

After installation of Windows XP I cannot remove a watermark through normal
means - format - background - printed watermark - no watermark is ticked off,
yet there remains a watermark that prints as well.

A watermark is just a graphic that's anchored in the header. To remove
it, open the header area, click the watermark to select it, and press
Delete.

I have also checked the headers and footers and it is not there. If I add a
different watermark, I get one on top of the other, but when I check the 'no
watermark' box, only the new one disappears.

I am having the same problem as Karen. How do I find out if it is anchored
to a paragraph? It appears on most of the 134 pages in the document.

If it appears on more than one page, it's more likely anchored to the
header, and you probably have multiple sections in the document. On a page
that displays the watermark, View | Header and Footer, select the watermark
and press Delete. Click Show Next or Show Previous on the Header and Footer
toolbar, and repeat until they're all gone.
