No Way To Use Office Update "Check for Updates" feature

Hi,

Bought new computer with trial version of Office 2003 Standard installed.
Could not uninstall Office 2003 Standard trial version. Deleted all files
that I could find on my hard drive. Installed Office 2000. Cannot
automatically update Office 2000 using Office Update Site.

Have tried all the suggestions I could find to no avail. Must I truly do a
clean install to fix this problem.

If you simply deleted files/folders you will not have uninstalled correctly,
there will be numerous entries in the registry as well as dll files left
over.
You probably need to uninstall office 2k if you can, then reinstall Office
2003 to then correctly remove it, before installing O2K.
Or as you suggest a clean install of yr o/s
