no windows startup and exit sound

Hi....
....a few days ago my winXP SP3 just stopped make any sound at startup and
exit as used to. Any other sound is ok , but startup and exit. I have
checked , the wav sound is there in Media folder (and plays fine in Sound
Properties preview), I have tried to select different wav sound, I did make
sure Windows Sound starts automatically, I have no yellow question marks in
my Device Manager and I did not make any installation/uninstallation in the
past few months....I have checked my disk for errors (found none), I have
scanned my computer for viruses using Norton Internet Security 2010 (found
none)....So, I have tried everything I know....
I know this issue isn't very important, but surelly is frustrating...I'd
like to control my PC and not viceversa....
Any suggestion will be apreciated...
10x a lot...
