Is it true that without 3rd party software, Exchange 2003 is NOT capable of booking resources WITH a delegate account? I've tried and tried and tried to set this up and it just doesn't work like it did with older versions of Exchange. I would love to know if it's supposed to work.

explain how you are doing this. What is the error message?

I am not sure what you mean by "the delegate doesn't auto reply"

It sounds like the Delegate is getting the meeting requests for the
resource, can the delegate accept/decline the meeting via the meeting
request email?

I have several conference rooms where I don't want to allow direct

booking, so I set up a delegate account to process all meeting requests. It
works fine where the meeting requests get sent to the delegate, but the
delegate doesn't auto reply like I've set it up to. I know this feature
used to work with Exchange 5.5, so I'm wondering if it's no longer supported
for some reason with Exchange 2003. Any feedback is appreciated.

In the past, the delegate account could automatically accept/reject meeting invitations by selecting to have them automatically processed when they are received by the delegate. Although I have this setting configured, I still need to manually go into the delegate's mailbox and manually accept or decline the meeting - it's not automatically processing. That's exactly what I want to do and I only have it set to automatically process meeting requests on the delegate account. I found that if I also set it on the resource account, it would result in direct booking which is not what I'm trying to do.

If you want the Delegate to receive these meeting requests you need to
remove the option on the resource calendar to "Automatically Accept Meeting
Requests". Once this option is disabled, all meeting requests sent to this
particular resource will be sent to the Delegate. I have never heard of
anyone wanting the Delegate to automatically accept meeting requests. I
thought the point of having a Delegate receive the meeting requests was so
they would have the option to Accept or Delete. Can you explain why this
functionality is necessary? One thing you could try is configuring the
Delegates calendar to automatically accept meeting requests but of course
there is no way to differentiate meetings sent to the Delegates calendar vs.
the Resource calendar.

I had this working with Exchange 5.5 where the delegate account automatically checked the calendar of the particular resource and sent out an automatic accept or deny to the requester based on the availability of the resource. One reason why direct booking isn't appealing to me is because I don't want users to be able to see the details of the events that are booked in each resource. Thanks again.

Have you tried using the Auto Accept Agent? It will work w/ Exchange 2003
only. I don't know if it requires the users to have permissions to the
calendar but it is worth a try. Let me know!

have edit access to the resource calendar>?

Thank you so much! I installed the add-on, assigned permissions and it's

working exactly how I need it to. I'm surprised that they took this
functionality out of the new versions of Exchange right out of the box -
it's a great feature. Thanks again.

No, what I did was take a group that included all of my users, added them as delegates, but gave them no rights to the mailbox. This enabled them to book new meeting requests, as well as delete their own requests, but they could not directly view the resource's calendar. It's working exactly like I need it to. I found that if I did not add them as delegates with no rights, they were able to view the calendar as a default right.
