non adjacent cell row copy inhibit

In Quatro pro I could hold down the control key and select non adj. cells and
then after they were highlighted I could copy them and then paste them anywhere
I wanted. When I hightlight the non adj. cells in Excel and then try to copy I
get a message that says" multiple cell ranges cannot be copied" There has got
to be a way to do this. Can somebody enlighten me? Manuals and help do not
address the copying of non adj. cells.
